People leave Zoho Campaigns for a small number of consistent reasons, and which alternative suits you depends entirely on which reason is yours. This is organised by problem rather than by a ranked list, because “best alternative” is meaningless without knowing what you are escaping.
One thing first: if you use Zoho CRM, Books or Desk, think hard before leaving. The native suite integration is the main reason to be on Zoho Campaigns at all, and losing it usually costs more than whatever you are trying to fix. Everything below assumes you have weighed that.
Why people leave
- Cart recovery and automation sit on Professional. Abandoned cart, purchase follow-ups, contact scoring, dynamic content, send-time optimisation, frequency capping, webhooks and conditional workflow logic are all top-tier features.
- Per-contact pricing on a list that grows faster than sends. Paying monthly for addresses you mail three times a year.
- Transactional email needs a second product. Zoho Campaigns is marketing only; receipts and password resets mean adding ZeptoMail, separately billed.
- The free plan does not do enough to evaluate on. No workflows, no segmentation, no scheduling, no A/B testing.
- They have left the Zoho ecosystem. Once the CRM goes, the main argument goes with it.
If the problem is per-contact pricing
Bluey Email bills on emails sent rather than contacts stored, with unlimited contacts above 20,000 monthly volume. Marketing and transactional arrive on one bill, and automations start on the free tier. Best when your list grows faster than your send volume — seasonal retail, events, membership organisations.
Brevo also prices by emails sent rather than contacts, and has been doing it longer with a larger integration library. Reasonable if you want the send-based model from a more established vendor. See Brevo alternatives for its own trade-offs.
Watch out for: switching to a send-based platform is only cheaper if you actually have a low send-to-contact ratio. Run your own numbers — a daily sender to a small list is usually better off on unlimited-email plans, which is exactly what Zoho gives you.
If the problem is automation gated behind Professional
Bluey Email puts conditional branching and in-workflow split testing on Grow rather than the top tier, with cart recovery available without a Professional-equivalent upgrade.
Klaviyo is the serious answer for ecommerce automation specifically. Deeper flows, better product-data handling, a much larger app library. It is also considerably more expensive and prices per profile, so it solves the automation problem and worsens the billing one. See Klaviyo alternatives.
ActiveCampaign has the most sophisticated automation builder in the mid-market. Steeper learning curve and per-contact pricing, so again: automation solved, billing model unchanged.
If you need transactional email too
Bluey Email includes API and SMTP sending on every plan, on the same bill as campaigns — one vendor and one sending reputation instead of two.
Brevo also covers both marketing and transactional in one account.
Or keep them separate deliberately. Plenty of serious senders run marketing on one platform and transactional on Postmark, Amazon SES or Resend, precisely to isolate reputation so a bad campaign cannot delay a password reset. See the best transactional email services and the transactional email guide.
If you are a Zoho shop and want to stay
Worth saying: the alternative might be a different Zoho plan rather than a different vendor. If the blocker is cart recovery or contact scoring, moving from Standard to Professional keeps the CRM integration you are on Zoho for. Compare that upgrade cost against the migration cost before switching — it is frequently the cheaper answer, and no vendor comparison page will tell you so.
Quick comparison
Zoho Campaigns — per contact, unlimited emails on paid plans. Best for existing Zoho customers and high-frequency senders with small lists. Marketing only. SMS and WhatsApp available as paid add-ons.
Bluey Email — per email sent, unlimited contacts above 20K volume. Marketing plus transactional on one bill, automations from the free tier, built-in CRM on Grow. Six native integrations, no SMS or WhatsApp.
Brevo — per email sent. Marketing plus transactional, larger integration library, longer track record.
Klaviyo — per profile. Strongest ecommerce automation and data model, meaningfully more expensive.
ActiveCampaign — per contact. Deepest automation builder, steeper to learn.

Before you migrate
- Export contacts with their consent records — source, timestamp and opt-in method, not just addresses. You need these to demonstrate consent, and in several jurisdictions you are required to keep them.
- Rebuild authentication on the new platform. SPF, DKIM and DMARC have to be reconfigured for the new sender — see SPF, DKIM and DMARC explained.
- Warm up if you are moving significant volume. A new sending setup has no reputation history. See how to warm up an email domain.
- Move your suppression list first. The single most damaging migration mistake is emailing people who had already unsubscribed on the old platform.
- Run both in parallel briefly. Keep the old account alive until the first few sends on the new one land properly.

Frequently asked questions
What is the best Zoho Campaigns alternative?
There is no single one. If per-contact pricing is the problem, a send-based platform like Bluey Email or Brevo. If automation gating is the problem, Klaviyo or ActiveCampaign. If you need transactional too, Bluey or Brevo. And if you are still on Zoho CRM, upgrading your Zoho plan is often cheaper than leaving.
Does Zoho Campaigns have a free plan?
Yes — 2,000 contacts and 6,000 emails a month, forever. It has no automated workflows, no segmentation, no scheduling and no A/B testing, which is why it works as a broadcast tool but not as a trial of the full product.
Is Zoho Campaigns good for ecommerce?
On the Professional plan, yes — abandoned cart, purchase follow-ups and product recommendations are all there. On Standard they are not, which is the gap most stores run into.
Can I move my automations across?
Not automatically — no platform imports another’s workflows. They have to be rebuilt. This is usually less work than it sounds, and it is a good moment to delete the flows nobody has looked at in a year.
If send-based pricing is what you are after
Bluey Email bills on emails sent rather than contacts stored, includes transactional sending on every plan, and puts automations on the free tier. If you are leaving Zoho over the billing model or the Professional gate, that is the specific problem it solves.
